What’s our story?
Why does this matter?
1. The story situates us
2. The story intends us
3. The story informs us
4. The story identifies us
How well do you know the story?
· Genesis 1:28 – “be fruitful, multiply & fill the earth – with people in my image / with worshippers / reflecting my glory”

OT Overview
A) Pharaoh & Egypt – Exodus 9:16
“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power & that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth”
B) Leaving Egypt - Exodus 12:37-38
“The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about 600, 000 men on foot, besides women & children. Many other people went up with them”
C) Crossing the Red Sea - Exodus 14:4
“And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.”
D) Rahab – Joshua 2:10-11
“We have heard (after 40 years) how the Lord died up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, when we heart of it, our hearts melted in fear, for the LORD your God is God in heave above & on the earth below”
E) 10 Commandments – Deut 4:5-6; 28:9-10
“See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’
“The Lord will establish you as a people holy to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in his ways. And all the peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you.
F) David & Goliath – 1 Sam 17:45-46
“This day I will strike you down…..& the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel”
1 Sam 5 – the ark of the covenant was captured by the Philistines & placed next to Dagon
When the Philistines captured the ark of God, they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon. And when the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and put him back in his place. But when they rose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the Lord, and the head of Dagon and both his hands were lying cut off on the threshold. Only the trunk of Dagon was left to him. This is why the priests of Dagon and all who enter the house of Dagon do not tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
G) Solomon & his wisdom – 1 Kings 4:30, 34; 10:24
“….so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt…….And people of all nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and from all the kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.”
“And the whole earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put into his mind.”
H) Queen of Sheba – 1 Kings 10:9
“Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delighted in you & set you on the throne of Israel!”
I) The Temple – 1 Kings 8:41-43
“As for the foreigner who does not….so that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name & fear You……”

“All the nations you have made shall come
and worship before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.”

“ Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!”

I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end.”

2 Peter 3:3-12 – “…..hastening the coming of the day of God”
People Group
A “people group” is the largest group within which the gospel can spread without encountering obstacles of understanding or acceptance
Unreached people group
#: 7000
A people group with little or no established church capable of evangelizing their own people
#: 3000 – unengaged
· 86% of the unreached has never met any Christians
· The difference is not who are more lost, but the access – most of these nations lies between the 10/40 window – hard places to live, governments who block & put down the truth of gospel. It takes a certain cost to reach these people
A good question
Romans 10:13-15
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? And it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
The Early Church
· Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witness in Jerusalem, in all Judea & Samaria, & to the end of the earth.”
· Jerusalem – Acts 1-7 (The Jerusalem were not the “Jerusalem” of the disciples, they were from Galilee)
· Judea – Acts 8
· Samaria – Acts 8
· To the ends of the earth – Acts 10 – Today
· Acts 10:44-45
“While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.”
The Story & Calling
Acts 16:6-7
“& they went through the region of Phrygia & Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. & when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.
(Paul had a vision when he was on the mission field)
Acts 16:8-10
“So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. & a vision appeared to Paul in the night; a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him & saying, “Come over to Macedonia & help us.” & when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.”
Ministry of Paul – Romans 15:19-21; Isaiah 52
Purchase Made
Revelation 5:9
“And they sang a new song, saying,“Worthy are you to take the scroll, and to open its seals,
for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,
and they shall reign on the earth.” Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice,“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and blessing!”
Promise Kept
Rev 7:9
“After this I looked & there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people & language, standing before the throne & in front of the Lamb….
